The Billionaire Owners Of Paris Saint-Germain Are Looking To Buy French Club

France is on the verge of getting another super club.

The Billionaire owners of Paris Saint-Germain and sponsors of Barcelona, the Qatari Investment Fund, are eyeing up French Pro D2 side Narbonne.

The news was reported by Gavin Mortimer in Rugby Worldearlier this month, and could see the Narbonne become one of the giants of the game.

Despite a big 41-8 win over Perpignan earlier today, Narbonne currently find themselves in 7th position and outside of the playoff positions in the French second tier.

Such investment would therefore transform a club that almost sank into the third their in 2011. Indeed had it not been for the an Australian consortium led by former Wallaby flanker, Rocky Elsom and Australian coach Bob Dwyer, Narbonne may have become a footnote in the history of French club rugby.

However, while the Qatari billions could potentially have Narbonne challenging the likes of Toulon and Clermont in a short space of time, Elsom and the Australian owners do not want to sell the club.

In a statement made on the club’s website, Elsom said,

even if there had been an offer, I seriously doubt that it would be in the best interests for Narbonne or RCNM, therefore the matter’s closed and we should all move on.

Although the Qatari Investment Fund have given Elsom until December 31 to reach a deal, they are prepared to take their interest elsewhere.
